Gardner Parks and Recreation Department is the recipient of the 2014 Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCHIP award. The award recognizes agencies that encourage and support healthy lifestyles through programs, facilities and events.
Jeff Stewart, parks and rec director, said it is an honor to receive the award.
“It will be proudly displayed as a symbol of the support and efforts made by the citizens of Gardner, Gardner City Council, dedicated professional staff, and all of the volunteers that make Gardner a great place to live and play,” he said.
City officials accepted the honor on Jan. 28 at the Kansas Recreation and Park Association Conference in Wichita. In addition to the recognition, the parks department received a $2,500 gift to support its youth scholarship fund and new programming for seniors.
