Parks and Recreation seeking artists for show

Johnson County Park and Recreation District is seeking artists for an art show at Ernie Miller Nature Center this fall.
The show is open exclusively to Johnson County artists who are 21 years of age or older. The deadline for entries is Aug. 2. The annual art exhibit, now in its eighth year, will be on display at the park from Oct. 28 to Nov. 20.
The Art Fest’s inaugural year was during the county’s Sesquicentennial in 2005. Since then, it has continued to feature a diverse set of Johnson County artists each year. The annual juried exhibition features an assortment of artwork that includes paintings, ceramics, photography, jewelry and mixed media. Last year, more than 230 pieces were submitted and 44 were featured on display.
Raechell Smith, chief curator at the Kansas City Art Institute, will serve as juror for this year’s exhibit, and the winning artists will receive more than $4,000 in prizes and awards.
To enter, artists can submit up to three works for consideration with a $25 entry fee. The exhibition is limited to original, wall-mounted art executed within the past two years and only one piece of art per artist may be selected for the exhibition.
Entry forms and instructions are available online at LINK or by calling (913) 894-3324.
