Numbers Speak well for Lady Blazers golf team

The Gardner Edgerton High School Lady Blazer golf team will have numbers on its side when the season begins with a Junior Varsity meet at Smiley’s course Sept. 4.
The varsity will wait until Sept. 10 to begin at Leawood South Country Club course.
“This is the largest team we’ve had in 10 years,” said coach Amy VanRheen. “We will be young, but everyone is working hard in practice and we’ve seen a lot of improvement.”
VanRheen will look to senior Jacque Buckingham for leadership. Also showing promise has been junior Jasmine Bailey and sophomores Megan Wilson and Emily Smith.
The Blazers will also have six new players this season, including a transfer from Santa Fe Trail and a nice mix of freshman and sophomores.
