Nike Elementary School boiler malfunctions

District officials will purchase and install a new boiler system at Nike Elementary School. School board members approved a contract for $42,000 with BCI Mechanical to replace a boiler that malfunctioned at Nike just after school released for the year. The existing boiler was purchased in 1977 and can not be repaired.

The boiler supplies heat to the school, and it developed a crack in its main tank in May. Although the building is unlikely to need heat throughout the summer, Bill Miller, director of district operations, told board members the boiler is used for dehumidifying the building in the summer.
The new boiler and installation will be funded with leftover capital outlay funds from the current year’s budget.
