New Century receives KDOT air funding

New Century AirCenter is one of 27 projects selected by the Kansas Department of Transportation to receive funding to enhance safety at public-use airports through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program. The New Century airport will receive $260,010 for repair and seal of transient ramp.
KDOT’s Division of Aviation, which manages the program, received 95 applications for projects totaling more than $35 million.
Since 2011, the Kansas Airport Improvement Program receives $5 million each year in order to continue the state’s investment in aviation infrastructure.
“Each year the project selection process becomes more competitive,” said Jesse R. Romo, KDOT Director of Aviation.  “The projects selected have a great geographic spread across the state and continue to preserve our airport system to a level that’s beneficial to the communities.”
Under guidelines of the program, project sponsors are required to pay a minimum of 10 percent of the total project costs, up to a maximum of 50 percent based on project category.
Johnson County Airport will also receive funding. The JC Airport will be awarded more than $180,000 for the repair and seal of an apron.
