Near drowning at pool ruled accidental event

A local toddler was hospitalized on July 9 afternoon after a near drowning incident at the Gardner Aquatic Center.
According to a press release, a lifeguard observed a three-year-old face down in the pool and unresponsive. The lifeguard rescued the toddler and began CPR. The taoddler began breathing and vomiting.
Police responded to the pool at approximately 3:20 p.m. on July 9.
After an investigation, police reported that the incident was an accident, and not the result of neglect or abuse. The family asked that the name of the toddler not be released.
