It took an OT period, but the Wheatridge eighth grade varsity Mustang football team posted a hard fought 14-12 home win against Spring Hill, Sept. 18.
Trailing 6-0 late in the fourth quarter, Mustang quarterback Griffin Johns found wide receiver Devan Toomey on a 56 yard scoring strike to tie the game and force overtime.
On the first play of overtime, runningback Cayden Simmons broke free for a 10 yard score. Johns then tossed a successful 2 point conversion pass to Reed Trogden.
Back came the Broncos scoring on a forth down pass. However. The Mustang defense stiffened as Jazz Davis forced a fumble and WMS recovered to secure the win.
Outstanding defense came from Johns (14 tackles), Dylan Watts, (nine tackles) and Simmons recorded eight tackles.
