Mustang eighth-graders defeat Spring Hill

Anthony Smart rushed for two touchdowns and 94 yards leading the Wheatridge Mustang eighth-grade varsity football team to a 30-6 season-opening win at Spring Hill, Sept. 7.
Besides Smart, Kyle Stubler tossed a 70-yard touchdown strike to Kyle Hultgren. Other top rushing efforts came from Josh Lang and Jake Beckner.
Meanwhile, the defense was led by Beckner and Sean Callahan with six tackles apiece. Emilio Fowler had five tackles.
Things proved a bit more difficult for the eighth-grade Mustang JV. The eighth-grade JV squad fell lossed 20-6 at Spring Hill.
WMS held a 6-0 halftime lead, thanks to the rushing of Devon Gulley and Nathan Outhout and the defense of Eric Hopper, Derek Ruddy and Austin Murphy.
However, Spring Hill rallied for 20 second-half points to secure the win.
