Meals on Wheels program looking for volunteers

Johnson County’s Meals on Wheels program has an immediate need to fill more than a dozen volunteer positions. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals to homebound seniors once a week, once a month, or whenever they can.
“Currently out of our 58 routes throughout Johnson County, we have 13 volunteer openings,” Arah Montagne, volunteer coordinator at Johnson County Meals on Wheels, said. “Johnson County Meals on Wheels serves 600 meals daily to homebound seniors, and we heavily rely on volunteers to help provide this important service to Johnson County residents.”
Meals are delivered from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers are needed in Blue Valley, DeSoto, Gardner, Lenexa, Merriam, Shawnee, Olathe, Overland Park, Roeland Park and Spring Hill.
“It’s an easy and rewarding volunteer opportunity for anyone who has a valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle,” Brandy Hodge, county volunteer services coordinator, said. “We have many stay-at-home parents or senior citizens who volunteer, and children can accompany volunteers on their route.”
Anyone interested in volunteering for Meals on Wheels can reach Brandy Hodge at (913)715-8866, by e-mail Brandy.Hodge@jocogov.org  or learn more at jocogov.org.
