Mary was born in Ottawa, Kan. on April 13, 1933 to Harry Harold Hayden and Frances Lucile Smith Hayden. She was one of five daughters, and is survived by three sisters, Thelma Smith, Juanita Nutt and Lila Conner.

On June 30, 1951 Mary married Harold Chester Hoffine. From this union, four daughters were born, Sherry, Terry, Cindy and Wendy. Mary worked as a CMA for 19 years at the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility in Waverly, Kan. The family lived in several places from Gardner to Waverly, retired to Flippin, Ark. and finally in Katy, Texas.

Mary always had a smile and was always a friend. Her smile showed in her eyes and she did not meet a stranger. She also showed a spark in those green eyes when you were in the doghouse. Mary loved life, her family and her friends. She was always referring to “her girls” who were her pride and joy. She loved animals of any kind, some not even very tame, and when she approached them they always responded to her. Mary had many friends and many “adopted” daughters, sons and grandchildren who referred to her as Mom or Grandma. Mary was always there to help whoever needed assistance, a ride, a care or need.

Mary loved to be active and to keep busy, from horseback riding in her early married years, to bowling, and playing games and dominoes. She loved to see new things and experience new places, and her smile never made her a stranger. Mary was a member of Katy Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances Baker and brother Gardner Hayden.

Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harold Hoffine, of the home; children Sherry (Bob) Ravenscroft, of Kansas City, Mo., Terry (Dennis) Chrisco, of Wichita, Kan., Cindy (Randy) Herzog, of Richmond, Texas and Wendy (Steve) Huddleston, of Katy, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and her companion dog, Sassy.
