The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) is working to make Johnson County and the Kansas City metro area more friendly for bicyclists.
According to a memo to county commissioners from Brian Pietig, rural services manager for Johnson County, MARC is working with a consultant to develop a regional bike trail plan throughout counties on both sides of the state line.
The purpose of the study is “building a stronger regional bikeway vision.”
Several communities, including Gardner have already incorporated recreational trails into their development plans.
The study will cost Johnson County $2,400 to participate. That money will come from the Planning, Parks and Public Works departments.
Pietig said he would update the board of county commissioners on the study’s progress and final results.
