Mabel I. Shippy

Mabel I. Shippy, 88, of Gardner, Kan., passed away Jan. 6, 2014, at her home.

Mabel was born March 8, 1925 in Clinton, Mo. to Harry B. and Floy Irene (Hunter) Kennedy. She grew up in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Mabel married Don Shippy Jan. 12, 1943 in Harrisonville, Mo. They lived in Spring Hill for 31 years, moving to Green Forrest, Ark. and then to Gardner in 1991.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Spring Hill. Mabel enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and handwork.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Don in 1991, and her parents.

Mabel is survived by two sons, Larry Shippy and Sharon, of Wichita, Kan. and Robert Shippy and Linda, of Gardner, Kan.; two daughters, Connie Yeager and Ben, of Linwood, Kan. and Donna Waller and Dale, of Overland Park, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Jan. 11, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111. Burial will follow at Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell, Kan. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Olathe Home Health & Hospice, 20333 W 151st St, Bld 2 Suite 301, Olathe, KS 66061.
