Lyndell LaVerne Voss

Lyndell LaVerne Voss, 93, of Gardner, Kan. passed away July 18, 2012 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County. 

LaVerne was born Oct. 14, 1918 in Miami, Okla. to Beuford and Cloeneta (Jones) Long.  She graduated from Peoria High School. 

LaVerne married Edwin L. Voss of Peoria.  She and her husband were active members of the First Baptist Church, Peoria, Ill., involved in many committees, always throwing their full support to the church.  After moving to East Peoria, Ed and Laverne joined the First United Methodist Church and were once again very involved members. 

The Vosses were bridge players and avid golfers. 

LaVerne was a secretary for the state of Illinois EPA Dept. for 10 years.  She moved to Gardner to be near her daughter and attended the First Presbyterian Church.  LaVerne was a woman full of joy and love who was devoted to her family and friends.  She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin, son David Edwin Voss, infant daughter Diana Kay Voss, twin brothers Bernard Judson and Beuford Spurgeon Long, sister Eugenia Belle Luchsinger, grandson Jay Lehman, and two nieces. 

LaVerne is survived her daughter Carol Lehman and husband Don of Gardner, Kan.; nieces Kathy Wessel and Nancy Stone; nephew Paul Luchsinger; grandchildren: Nicole Cooper, Sheree Rosen, Becky Stratton, Gene Lehman, Jim Lehman, Janie Wilson; seven great grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., July 28, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 154 E Washington St, East Peoria, IL.  Greetings will take place at 10 a.m. before the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Vintage Park of Gardner or the First United Methodist Church of East Peoria.
