Loretta S. Zimmerman, 86, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away peacefully Feb. 6, 2012, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Loretta was born Feb. 17, 1925, near Spring Hill, Kan., to Vernon Curtis and Martha Leora (Nevius) Stiles. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1942 and attended classes for one year at Ottawa University.

She taught at Happy Hill School for one year and then Overland Park Elementary School for about 20 years and then Pawnee Elementary School until she retired in 1992.

She completed a B.S. in 1955 and a M.S. in Education in 1969, both at Pittsburg State University and continued to take graduate courses, completing her studies during her summer vacations. Loretta was devoted to teaching for 48 years and particularly loved fourth grade level.

On Aug. 3, 1952, she married Raymond Joseph Zimmerman, of Olathe, Kan. The couple made their home in Johnson County and then on a farm near Spring Hill until moving to Overland Park in 1984.

Loretta was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church and played the organ for the church many years. Loretta and Raymond traveled extensively in the U.S. and also enjoyed a couple of trips to Europe.

Loretta was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, and her brother, Vance Stiles.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Stiles; nephews, Dale and Debby Stiles, Keith and Lesia Stiles, all of Spring Hill; and niece, Dr. Carol Stiles of Valdosta, Ga., and many great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Feb. 11, 2012 at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 112 E Nichols, Spring Hill, KS. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Spring Hill United Methodist Church or the Spring Hill Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
