Location changes for July Fourth celebration

Danedri Thompson
A Gardner Fourth of July tradition will be changing this holiday as grass on the Gardner Edgerton High School football field, where the city’s annual firework event is hosted, is replaced with Astroturf.
Jeff Stewart, city parks and recreation director, told council members that he was recently notified by school officials that the high school field will be unavailable this summer as construction on the district’s $72 million bond issue begins.
Stewart said city officials are considering moving the fireworks celebration to Celebration Park this year. Officials discussed such a move last year, but decided to stick with tradition.
Stewart said Celebration Park would offer the same tailgating atmosphere that the high school location did.
