Hannah Falkner and her parents, Carrie and Steven Falkner, participated in last weekends Carnival for a Cure that was held at Veterans Park.  All the proceeds from Carnival for a Cure are being donated to Walk to Cure Psoriasis.
Hannah is the youth ambassador this year for the Walk to Cure Psorasis.  She is walking to raise money to help doctors find a cure for all the people that have Psoriasis.
She wishes that no one had Psoriasis because “it itches, stings & hurts really bad.”
Hannah would like to be able to tell her friends about PSO and she would like to help them understand what it is and that it is not contagious and that she is just like they are.
People who suffer with Psoriasis have immune systems that send out messages to speed up the time it takes to grow skin.  Some of your skin cells don’t have time to fall off.  They just build up and make scaly, silvery patches.  This pile of cells makes the skin under it red and itchy.
The most important thing to know about Psoriasis is that it is not contagious.
Psoriasis effects as many as 7.5 million people in the U.S. and over 125 million people worldwide.  It is the most prevalent autoimmune disease in the U.S.
Walk to Cure Psoriasis will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at Theis Park in Kansas City, Mo.  Registration begins at 8 a.m.  Walk begins at 9 a.m.  Walk to Cure Psoriasis is a noncompetitive 1k or 5k walk which raises money to fund research to find a cure for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and eliminate their devasting effects.
If you would like to donate to Hannah Falkner or “Team hannah Banana” go to http://walk.psoriasis.org/goto/hannahbanana.
