Late rally lifts SHMS Lady Mavs past Paola

Clutch free throw shooting by Chastity Ward, Shelby Baker, Jenna Nevius, and Anna Duncan in the final seconds lifted the Spring Hill Middle School Lady Mav eighth-grade varsity basketball team to a 35-33 win versus Paola, Oct. 28.
Sydney Weaver sank a clutch three-pointer late in the fourth quarter and then let team free throw shooting seal the verdict.
“An outstanding effort by the whole team,” said Coach Terry Sharp. “They played with poise and confidence down the stretch.”
It was the same story in the seventh-grade JV game as the Mavs went on an 8-0 fourth-quarter run and beat Paola, 15-12.
Leading the way were Ramsey Hastings and Emily Nemer with four points each. Jordan Brown, Abby Krull, and Lauren Oberkrom had two points apiece.
Top defensive efforts came from Brown (five steals).Nemer and Anna Long had four steals apiece.
The eighth-grade JV posted a 31-10 win versus Paola behind the 10-point effort of Hanna Mering.
Tessa Davids added eight points; Mackenzie Tyler, six points; Lara Spaulding, three points; and Sky Coleman, two points.
