Lady Jags defeat Louisbug for volleyball title

Playing their best volleyball of the season, the Pioneer Ridge eighth grade varsity volleyball team captured the Frontier league tournament title, Oct. 12 in Spring Hill.
In the championship match vs. Louisburg, Pioneer posted a 25-21 first set win. The team rallied from a 24-22 deficit in the second set to win the title.
Taylor Carpenter had two pressure packed serves in the finale. Good passing led to a Tara Land kill to complete the sweep and win the title.
Top server for the day was Daisy Pinedo with six aces. Koetters and Carpenter added five aces.
Offensively, the Jags were led by Land and Koetters with 20 and 19 kills.
Lauren Highfill and Kaitlyn Trotter led the defensive effort.
“I’m so proud of how the girls made improvement throughout the season,” said Coach Darrell Wait. Beginning at 0-4 and ending as league champs shows the improvement. The team chemistry was excellent with this group, as they always picked one another up.”
Crowned league champions were Neili Pearson-Bruce, Taylor Carpenter, Lauren Highfill, Macy Koetters, Tara Land, Lauren Misse, Caitlin  Miller, Daisy Pinedo, and Kaitlyn Trotter.
