Lady Broncos soccer squad finishes fourth at state

The Lady Broncos soccer squad brought back a fourth place finish from the 4A-1A state tournament at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka, May 25-26.
In the opener, Spring Hill High School  struggled offensively and lost to Topeka Hayden, 2-0. The Broncos gave up two first-half goals and then held Hayden scoreless the rest of the game.
“Hayden is very skilled and talented,” said SHHS Coach Susan Putnam. “We allowed two early goals and then stepped up defensively.  We were just not able to capitalize on our scoring opportunities.”
Hayden scored in the 10th minute when Andie Barry crossed a corner kick into the box and Kirah Lohse scored it into the net. In the 33rd minute, Barry converted a goal past Spring Hill’s Abigail Miskell.
In the third place game, Spring Hill lost to De Soto 3-1. Spring Hill had 33 shots on goal but couldn’t finish. The final standings showed Hayden as the overall champion followed by Winfield, De Soto and Spring Hill.
Spring Hill finished 12-5 on the season and will graduate seven seniors.
