After nearly a month of practice, the Spring Hill Lady Bronco softball squad begins its season March 27 versus St. James Academy.
Coach Shelly Huber returns for her third season and hopes to improve on last year’s 6-15 record. Huber has witnessed an excellent attitude in pre-season drills and looks forward to a promising season.
“I feel good about practices so far,” said Huber. “The girls are working hard and bringing a positive attitude every day. We just want to get better throughout the year and show a lot of improvement.”
Huber will look for leadership from returning starters Sarah Henkle (senior pitcher), Hayley Berkley (senior leftfielder), Shayna Weers (sophomore all-league 2b), and Hailey Taylor (sophomore all-league utility-catcher).
Weers led the team in hitting last year at .440 while Taylor had a .339 average.
“We will need to have good leadership from our returning four and our younger players will fill some pretty big positions,” added Huber.
Top newcomers include Jenna Nevius (fr-1b, 3b, of), Chasity Ward (fr-3b, p), and Maria Wright (soph – cf).
First pitch is set for 4 p.m. versus St. James.
