Posting a 2-1 record, the lady Blazer volleyball team took second place honors in its home triangular meet with Bonner Springs, Spring Hill and Blue Valley Southwest last week.
In the opener, GEHS turned back Bonner in two sets, 25-11, 25-13. First set action saw the Blazers jump to a 9-3 early lead and went up 7-6 by the second timeout. Macy Koetters and Jesse Heniss had two aces and spectacular serve reception came from Kynli Nelson.
In the second set, the Blazers went on an unanswered nine point run behind the serving of Lauren Highfill. Ana Barnes led the offense with six kills, while Haylei Bell added four kills and Courtney Wheeler, two.
In the win over Spring Hill, GEHS rallied to take the first set, 25-19.
The team took Spring Hill 25-17 in the second set. The Blazers were led by Maddy Linden with 29 assists and 13 days. Koetters had 13 digs and Highfill, eight. Bell led the offense with 10 kills.
That set the stage for a rematch with Blue Valley Southwest. Tied 1-1 in sets, Southwest outlasted GEHS, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20.
Despite the loss, the Blazers were led by two aces and seven digs from Highfill, three kills and 19 digs from libero Koetters, nine kills and two blocks from Barnes, 10 kills and 11 digs from Kyla Shappell and 35 assists from Linden.
