The Lady Blazers varsity softball squad dropped a pair of games in a season-opening home double-header versus St. Thomas Aquinas on March 29.
Aquinas won the opener 13-0 and 5-1 in the nightcap in the East Kansas League opener.
“Despite the losses, we saw a lot of hustle and effort, and the girls did not give up,” said coach Joanne Calvin. “I was proud of the effort.”
In the opener, Ashleigh Perry collected the Blazers’ only hit.
In the second game, Gardner Edgerton High School got solid pitching from Haley McGuire and Shelby Kaberline.
Alexis Pacheco went two-for-three, stroking a triple and scoring on a double by Perry (two-for-three). Kaberline and Mackenzie Skeens collected singles.
Now 0-2, GEHS gets back at it at Blue Valley West on April 5.
