KDOR shutters Shawnee business for tax delinquincy

The Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) seized all assets, cash and inventory of American Formal Wear in Shawnee, Kan. State officials served tax warrants for non-payment of sales taxes on Monday, Sept. 27.

All known bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory, and personal property assets belonging to the owner were seized and the business was sealed closed. Seized assets will be sold at public auction to pay delinquent taxes.

American Formal Wear owed more than $46,307 in delinquent taxes dating as far back as August 2008 when its assets were seized.

Warrant execution occurs when all other collection attempts, including multiple letters, telephone calls, letters of impending legal action, tax liens filed with the District Court of domicile to secure the debt, previous bank levies and on-site till taps are executed to bring the taxpayer into compliance have been exhausted.

KDOR staff will be available for customers to pick up any items on layaway or special order from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30 and   Friday, Oct. 1. Customers can also call (785)250-0841 for assistance.
