Joseph W. Smith

Joseph W. Smith, 88, of Spring Hill, passed away Oct. 8, 2013 at Meadowbrook Nursing Center, Gardner, Kan.

Joe was born Aug. 24, 1925 in Marshall, Mo. to Walter Everiett and Beulah Areminta (James) Smith. He graduated high school in Marshall.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

He married Margie Glantz on Aug. 6, 1956 in Lamar, Colo. In the 60’s they lived in Independence, Mo. They moved to Chariton, Iowa and then to Spring Hill in 2002.

For 22 years, he was a VP of Safety, Security and Health for Hy-Vee Food Stores, Inc. at the corporate office in Chariton. He was a High Priest and Evangelist at the Olathe Community of Christ Church. He was a member of the Lions Club in Chariton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margie in 2006, brother John Smith and step-daughter Sharon.

Joe is survived by his son Joseph Conrad Smith and wife Laura Wiedner-Smith, of Spring Hill and step-daughter Pat Rice, of Blue Springs, Mo.; granddaughter Lisa Lucas, of Indianola, Iowa and seven other grandchildren; three great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sisters Elsa Brooks, of Mt Joy, Pa. and Carol Barnes of Sedalia, Mo.; and brothers Willard Smith, of Omaha, Neb. and Jim Smith, of Independence, Mo.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Oct. 11, 2013 at Olathe Community of Christ Church, 15520 S. Ridgeview Rd, Olathe, KS 66062. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service at the church. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS, (913)592-2244. Burial will be held at 9 a.m., Oct. 12, 2013 at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 6700 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE.
