The proposed FY 2013 Budget for Johnson County Government will be presented to the Johnson County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) on Thursday, May 31, by County Manager Hannes Zacharias and representatives from the Department of Budget and Financial Planning.
The public presentation, beginning at 1 p.m., will take place during a Committee of the Whole session of the Board in the hearing room on the third floor of the Johnson County Administration Building, 111 South Cherry St., in downtown Olathe. The meeting is accessible for viewing on the county’s website www.jocogov.org via the “meeting broadcast” link.
The proposed budget is traditionally crafted without an increase in the county’s taxing levy, which is now 23.188 mills and the lowest mill levy among 105 counties in Kansas. The county has maintained a constant mill levy since 2007.
The current budget totals $810.6 million, with expenditures of approximately $682 million and reserves of $128.6 million to fund 29 departments and five agencies that comprise Johnson County government.
After receiving the proposed budget, the BOCC will meet in June with county departments and agencies in a series of work sessions to finalize the county’s FY 2013 Budget and its supporting mill levy in early July.
The public hearing on the 2013 Budget will occur at 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, in the board’s hearing room. The BOCC is scheduled to adopt the budget resolution during its business session in the hearing room at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. According to state statute, the county’s new budget must be approved and filed with the County Clerk by Aug. 25.
