Johns leads Blazer freshmen to victory

Griffin Johns passed for three touchdowns and ran for another leading the Blazer freshman football team to a 28-7 win in the season finale at Olathe North, Oct. 24.
Gardner Edgerton High School, 6-2, led 8-7 at halftime thanks to a 45-yard scoring strike from Johns to Hunter Skeens. Skeens added a successful two-point conversion run.
GEHS went up 16-7 on a Johns one-yard run and a two- point conversion pass to Zach Bass.
The Blazers salted away their sixth win of the season on fourth quarter touchdown passes of 25 and 40 yards from Johns to Bass.
Through the air, Johns connected on 9 of 15 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns.
His favorite target was Bass who hauled in five passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Skeens grabbed two passes for 85 yards and one touchdown.
Skeens led a balanced rushing effort with 39 yards on 13 totes. Jonas Pippitt added 34 yards on five carries.
