The seventh grade Pioneer Ridge varsity boys basketball team met with mixed results in a season opening home doubleheader last weekend.
In the opener, Pioneer posted a 45-33 win versus Louisburg behind the 10 point efforts of Kody Hughes and Brooks Langrehr.
Pioneer jumped to a 13-2 first quarter lead and took control with 16 second quarter points.
“We did a nice job of pressuring the ball and forcing Louisburg out of their comfort zone,” said Coach Jeff Davidson.
In game two, Pioneer lost a fast paced 52-48 decision to the Spring Hill Mavericks.
Pioneer trialed 23-17 at the half and were down by eleven at the end of the third quarter. The Jags pulled within four points late in the game, but ran out of time.
Despite the loss, Hayden Dyer scored 14 points and Lagrehr, 12 points. Hughes had eight points.
