Using a strong running attack, the Pioneer Ridge eighth-grade varsity Jag football squad posted a convincing 36-6 season-opening win Sept. 7 at Louisburg.
Jadon Pearson-Bruce opened the scoring with a five-yard run. Seth Pesek added the two-point conversion run. Minutes later, Anthony Cisneros scored on a one-yard touchdown run and Bruce added the two-point conversion run.
Up 16-0, it was Carson Hobby’s turn. He scored on a 30-yard run. The conversion failed.
After Pesek’s 15-yard touchdown run, Bruce added a two-point run. PRMS’ final score came on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jake Huppe to Bryan Njogu.
“It was a great way to open the season,” Coach Kevin Collins said. “The kids played real well.”
Collins credited the offensive line of Conner McGuire, Zach Shelton, Terry Heathman, Jacob Haywood, John Fruit and Nick Wohlford for the offensive success.
Meanwhile, the defense was anchored by Heathman, Shelton, Taylor Webb and Bruce.
At 1-0, PRMS took to the field versus Eudora, Sept 14.
