Police investigators last week returned to the scene where hunters found a human skull.
Law enforcement started a search for additional evidence in late March after hunters found human remains near 213th Street and Gardner Road. Officers discontinued the search in the face of inclement weather, but returned to the scene this week.
Deputy Tom Erickson, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said searchers completed the search this week.
“I don’t anticipate we’ll be back out there,” he said.
Meanwhile, investigators are awaiting results from forensic testing of the skull. They have yet to determine the age and sex of the potential victim or even say whether they believe they are dealing with a crime.
Erickson said it will be several weeks before law enforcement completes forensics.
“If we’re able to get anything, it’s going to take a bit of time,” Erickson said. “It’s not like we had fingerprints of the very basics to go with the skull. It’s just going to take awhile.”
