With little public fanfare, the sometimes contentious Logistics Park Kansas City project opened its doors in Edgerton on Monday, Sept. 30.
LPKC, with its rail-accessible warehouses next to the BNSF intermodal, will offer distribution services to an international audience. As part of an agreement between the city of Edgerton, BNSF and project developer Edgerton Land Holding Company, primary sources of tax and fee revenue associated with the logistics park will be used to fund infrastructure related to the project’s development. The agreement includes 65 percent tax abatements for development within the logistics park.
The public is invited to check out the logistics park during a community open house this weekend. The event will include free hamburgers, chips and drinks, and guests will get a look at warehouse and distribution centers under construction at the site. The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 at 31608 W. 191st Street in Edgerton.
Officially, Sept. 30 also marked the opening of the new Interstate 35 interchange at Homestead Lane. However, the highway was accessible via the new interchange beginning on Saturday, Sept. 28. The new interchange marks the first of its kind, a diverging diamond interchange, in the state of Kansas. Improvements to 191st Street from Waverly Road to Four Corners Road are also open to drivers.
