Imogene “Jean” Powell

Imogene “Jean” Powell, 88, of Spring Hill, Kan., passed away Aug. 22, 2014 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa.
Jean was born Nov. 16, 1925 in rural Dixon, Mo. to Katherine (Yokum) and Wesley Claude Baker. Jean married Jay Bee Powell on Nov. 6, 1941 in Dixon.
Having moved many times, the family relocated to Spring Hill in 1957, where they co-owned and operated Powell Oil Co. She also worked at Cade’s Hardware Store.
Jean was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church and a 53 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 350 in Spring Hill. Jean loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jay Bee and her sister Pansy Shepherd.
Jean is survived by her children: Larry Jay Powell and Patricia, of Salina, Kan., Tyler Lee Powell and Peggy, of Spring Hill, Kan., Karen Sue Konn, of N.J. and Claudette Kay Hamilton and Richard, of Lenexa, Kan.; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law Lemoin Shepherd, of Wentzville, Mo.; a niece and two nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 27, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, (913)592-2244. Private family graveside service will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or Crossroads Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
