Interstate 35 is reduced to one lane near Edgerton for a Kansas Department of Transportation bridge maintenance and overlay project.
Workers began repairing joints and patching and overlay bridge decks over Spoon Creek and Bull Creek on June 2. I-35 bridges over both creeks and 11.1 miles of northbound and southbound I-35 will receive four-inch asphalt overlay and new pavement markings.
Work take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday and occasionally on Saturday.
Northbound and southbound I-35 over both bridges have been reduced to one lane each direction, 24/7 round the clock, through the project work zone throughout the project duration. Traffic is being directed through the project work zone via signage, cones and concrete barrier. There will be a 12-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone throughout the duration of the project.
In early September 2014, the 4-inch asphalt overlay work will begin on both northbound and southbound I-35 for approximately 11.1 miles from the Miami County line north to just north of Gardner. There will be daily lane drops on I-35 and varying short-term ramp closures through the project work zone. Advance separate notification will be sent out for this portion of the project work.
Advance message boards will alert drivers to the lane and ramp closures. Drivers should expect minor delays and may wish to adjust their peak commute times as needed.

Hamm Construction Co. is the primary contractor on this $6.698 million bridge repair and resurfacing project. The bridge repair portion of the project is scheduled to be completed in early September 2014. The asphalt overlay on I-35 is scheduled to be completed in late October 2014. The overall project is scheduled to be completed in late October 2014, weather permitting.
