Members of the Gardner Police Department, “Team Gardner” participated for the first time in the 2013 Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Shawnee Mission Park Lake on Jan. 26.
The police officers teamed up with Kansas Special Olympics in the fundraising effort.
Officers Erica Drinkard, Danny Hackler, and Ilena Spalding joined officers from various departments braving frigid water temperatures to help raise money for the Special Olympics.
“Team Gardner” set a first time goal of raising $1,000 and that goal was reached with support of local residents and business owners. Donations are still being accepted  at LINK.
