Gerald Keith Zink, Sr.


Gerald Keith Zink, Sr., 77, of Spring Hill, Kan., passed away Jan. 13, 2013 at OlatheMedicalCenter. 

Gerald was born Dec. 31, 1935 in La Harpe, Kan. to Burt and Mable (Wingler) Zink.  He was a graduate of La Harpe High School.  Gerald married Velma Joan Hoddy on March 4, 1956 in Iola, Kan.  They lived in Stillwater, Okla. and moved to Spring Hill in 1974. 

He served in the Kansas National Guard for eight years.  Gerald was a heavy equipment mechanic for Holiday Sand and Gravel in Bonner Springs, Kan., retiring in 1997. 

He was a member of Engineers Local #101 in Kansas City, Mo. and the Olathe American Legion.  He enjoyed anything John Deere.  He will be dearly missed. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Betty Netherly and Duane D. Zink. 

Gerald is survived by his wife Velma, of the home; son Gerald K. Zink, Jr. and wife Sheri, of Georgia and Burt W. Zink and wife Tammie, of Gardner; brother Larry Zink, of Texas; six grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 18, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, (913)592-2244.  Cremation after visitation with inurnment at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Hospice.  Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
