GEHS Lady Blazer track squad takes 2nd place at Olathe Invitational

The Lady Blazers had six individual champions and accumulated 155-and-a- half points to claim runnerup honors behind Olathe East High School at the Olathe Invitational on April 11th.
Gardner Edgerton High School hosted the invitational meet due to construction at the Olathe District Activity Center.
Taylor Claybon lead the way for the lady Blazers earning gold medals in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Abbie Lane added third place points in the 300-meter hurdles.
Blazer pole vaulters swept the competition. Abbie Buie took the gold, followed by GEHS vaulter Kayla Burcham in second and GEHS’ Karli Smith in third.
Lady Blazers also dominated the throwing events taking gold in the javelin, discus and shot put. Buie took first in javelin, and Jill Starling earned third place in the javelin. Hannah Culbertson won first place in discus, and Marissa Gray took second. Lauren Strick took the gold in the shot put followed by GEHS’ Abbey Bilhimer, who took the bronze in the shot put.
Pivotal points also came in the relay events where the Blazers took second in the 1600-meter relay and third in the 3200-meter relay.
Next action comes after press time on April 15 at the Baker relays.
