Former Gardner Edgerton High School pole vaulting standout Casey Bowen earned a second place finish at the Big XII Indoor Track and Field competition last weekend at Iowa State University.
Bowen, a sophomore at the University of Kansas majoring in sports management, cleared 5.17 meters, or 16-foot, 11.5-inches, to take second place behind his KU teammate, Alex Bishop.
In outdoor competition last year, Bowen was the highest-finishing pole vaulter for the Jayhawk team.
He has also competed at the World Junior Games in Barcelona, Spain in 2012, and was a runner-up at the U.S. Junior Championships last June. He holds a GEHS school pole vaulting record, and won the Kansas 5A state championship his senior year.
Bowen is the son of Mark and Jane Bowen.
