The Blazers fall sports season will officially kick off with Aug. 25 action in tennis and volleyball.
The girls’ tennis team, led by Samantha Aleman and Krista Long, take to the courts in action at the Wichita Collegiate classic. The tourney will include all the 6A Olathe teams, all Blue Valley squads and rival St. Thomas Aquinas.
“Were excited about playing in the Wichita tourney,” said Coach Jackie O’Connor Stahl. This will give us an excellent early season test and get us ready for our home quad Aug.27.”
Optimism abounds around the Lady Blazers volleyball program as coach Daryl Wait prepares his team for another state title run. Wait guided last year’s team to a 34-8 record and placed second in the EKL and third at 6A state. Led by three time all-stater Cassie Wait and Hannah Bettge(second team All State),the Lady Blazers travel to highly ranked St. James Aug. 25 in a 6:30 pm  match featured on Metro Sports.
In boys’ soccer, senior midfielder Travis Haenisch returns from a season ending ACL injury to lead the Blazers. Fellow seniors Dilon Dodson (leading scorer), and defenders Austin Geist and Jake McIntire will provide leadership. First test comes Aug.28 at home versus Shawnee Heights of Topeka.
In girls golf, Coach Amy Van Rheen returns to led a talented team in action at the Aug. 28 Blue Valley North Invitational.
In the football arena, veteran coach Marvin Deiner is busy preparing his team to host arch rival Blue Valley in an Aug. 31, 7 pm kickoff.  Juniors Traevohn Wrench, runningback, and Jared Hobby, quarterback, hope to lead the Blazers back to state. Fans will be treated to a new green turf field with blue end zones and the GEHS logo at midfield.
Finally, cross country coach Larry Ward will lead his Blazers team into action at the Gold Classic in Wichita Sept 1. The girls’ team runs a 4k at 9:20 followed by the boys’ race at 10:20. It is an all varsity event.
