Saving her best for last, Gardner Edgerton High School senior Danie Plank won the KU Relays javelin title with a throw of 161-feet,1-inch April 19.
The throw set a new GEHS record and is the second best effort in the nation this spring. In addition, the throw is the fourth best all time in Kansas high school history. It is the top throw in Kansas this year by seven feet.
“Quite an impressive performance,” said Coach Larry Ward. “That gave the team momentum for the rest of the relays.’
Jessica Cisneros placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 127 feet, 3 inches and Jill Starling was sixth in the same event with an effort of 122-feet, 8- inches.
In the pole vault, senior Cassie Wait cleared 11-feet, 11-inches to claim second place. Mill Valley senior Emily Brigham won the event with a meet record 12’-5 inches effort. Natalie Mitchell took ninth clearing 10-feet, and Abby Buie was 14th clearing a personal best, 9-feet, 6-inches.
The 1600 relay team of Taylor Claybon, Miranda Tenove, Sierra Coen and McKenzie Scroggin placed sixth in the Sunflower Showdown with a time of 4:18. The 1600 sprint medlay relay of Claybon, Abby Buie, Tenove and Scroggin took 12th place in a time of 4:39.8. The 3200 relay of Tenove,Scroggin, Coen and Katie Groshong placed 21rst in a season best time of 10:34.42.
Next comes the Blazer Invitational April 26. The field events get underway at 3:30 p.m.
