The Gardner Rotary Club’s Year End/Year Beginning dinner was held June 28, 2012. At the dinner the outgoing president Cherlyn White-Conklin recognized members who have serviced the club, community and international projects tirelessly.
The Gardner Rotarians have given hours of time and money to: dictionaries to all third graders in the Gardner-Edgerton School District, help at the Boo Bash, sponsored student scholarships, sent high school students to Rotary Youth Leadership Award (Rotary’s leadership training program for young people) for a week, sponsor ed inbound students from other countries and Gardner students outbound to other countries, sponsored a high school organization (Interact club), worked at Relay for Life and hosted a team, recognized a Teacher of the Year, helped the Food Pantry, assisted at the Johnson County Fair, and presented RYCOE (Rotary Youth Character of Ethics) Award to students at the middle schools, worked to eradicate Polio, helped organize and work the Festival on the Trails, and much more.
To fund these activates and projects, the organization we did its first Annual Grocery Grab, sold Nuts for Holiday cooking and gift giving, had a food booth at the Festival on the Trails, sold Kansas City Star newspapers on Royal’s opening day and for fun hosted a poker tournament.
Club members are looking forward to a busy 2012-13 under the leadership of President J P Davies. The Gardner Rotary Club is an enthusiastic organization dedicated to community service. Members are the business and civic leaders of the area and strive to have fun while helping others.
Paul Harris Award: These honorees are individuals who meet high professional and personal standards set forth by Paul Harris (our founder in 1905). This year the Gardner Rotary Club presented the Paul Harris Award to Mandy Sheldon for all the support she gives the club and the community and always with a smile.
President Cherlyn White-Conklin ended meetings with the Rotary 4-Way Test: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it Fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
