conference police officers unveiled the department’s new uniforms. At least two television stations, including KCTV 5, were on hand.

Gardner Police Chief Gerald Cullumber estimated the uniform conversion cost approximately $12,000 to outfit each of approximately 30 officers with new midnight blue uniforms. However, he said the new uniforms will pay dividends in the long run, as they can be cleaned and pressed at home and will likely need to be replaced less often.

Cullumber said the darker blue uniforms convey a professional appearance.  Gardner police officers will officially make the switch on Aug. 10 at the Johnson County Fair Parade. Citizens can catch a sneak peak at the uniforms at city hall. A uniformed mannequin flanked by a picture of Gardner officers is on display in the foyer.
