Gardner Ice softball team starts season

The season is underway for Coach Steve Adamson and his 16-18 year old Gardner Ice softball squad. The team began league play June 4 at the Olathe girls’ softball association and will also participate in four area tournaments.
“We have a good group of players this season and look for the team to make continued improvement as the season progresses,” said Adamson.
The team split a doubleheader in opening league play June 4 as strong pitching performances came from Chelsie Gilner and Olivia Schultz.
Gilner, Tori Hill and Schultz will share the pitching duties while Bethany Schultz and Kendra Rogers will handle the catching duties. Splitting time in the infield and outfield will be Jacklyn Adamson, Sara Coble, Taylor Finnell, Hannah Flores, Sarah Gilner, Tori Lafferty and Abby Weems.
Adamson has help in assistant coaches Dean Gilner and Dave Johnson. Nicole Johnson is the manager-scorekeeper.
