Gardner Gold Special Olympics Soccer teams earned gold and silver medals at the state soccer tournament in Olathe last weekend.
The senior squad beat the Wichita Independents, 12-1, and Blue Valley, 11-4, to take the gold. The accomplishment marks the team’s first state competition.
The juniors beat Blue Valley 19-3, but lost a hard-fought game to Harvey County, 6-10. The split record gave the juniors the silver medal.
