The city of Gardner is now accepting applications for several boards including the Planning Commission, Electric Utility Board, Board of Zoning Appeals and Airport Board.
Council members approved a new appointment process during a March 18 city council meeting.
The new process requires that position openings be advertised for two weeks in a variety of places including the local newspaper, the city website and social media.
The council and mayor will receive a list of applicants and have one week to recommend candidates from the applicants. In the following two weeks, members of the governing body and city staff will conduct candidate interviews, following which the mayor will choose a nomination to council for approval.
Applications are available online at www.gardnerkansas.gov and at city hall, and officials anticipate board openings soon.
