Francis Leroy “Shorty” Eastland

Francis Leroy “Shorty” Eastland, 90, of Spring Hill, Kan., passed away Jan. 12, 2014 at Golden Living in Spring Hill.

Shorty was born Oct. 22, 1923 in Olathe to Allan Morris and Ruby (Dunham) Eastland. He was a Gardner High School graduate.

Shorty served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a self employed handyman skilled in carpentry. He always kept busy; sometimes as an auctioneer, and he had a talent as a sheep shearer for 55 years.

Shorty was a past member of the Spring Hill American Legion Cole-Smith Post No. 350.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his children Allan Eastland and Sandra “Sandy” Whitehead.

Shorty is survived by his life-long partner of 26 years, Gloria Hicks, of Spring Hill; siblings Morris Eastland, Irene Peer and Dale Eastland, all of Gardner, Harold (Betty) Eastland, of Okla.,; Nadine Paulson, of Olathe; and Sue (Donald) Pickell of Las Vegas, Nev.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; stepchildren Robert (Connie) Pearce, Phillip (Barbara) Pearce, Pam (Robert) Jedlicka, Loveda Lou Burnett, Marsha (Jimmy) Slyter, Less (Sandy) Hudson, Warren (Theresa) Hicks, LeRoy (Jennette) Hudson, and Leibert Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Jan. 16, 2014 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley, Kan. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS (913)592-2244.
