Frances E. Lawhead

Frances E. Lawhead, 87, passed away July 12, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House.

Frances was born Dec. 29, 1925 in Linwood, Kan. to Harvey Spencer and Margie Frances (Randall) Couch. A life-long area resident, she graduated from De Soto High School in 1944.

Frances married Charles K. Lawhead on April 28, 1943 in St. Joseph, Mo. They were co-owners of Few Acres Farm, growing produce.

Frances was the first Woman in Kansas City to gain the distinction of Journeyman Pressman. She worked for Intercollegiate Press Printing Co. in Shawnee for 15 years.

Frances was very active in the De Soto Baptist Church. She was a member of the De Soto Eastern Star, Chapter 78, serving as Worthy Matron in 1979, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Pleasant Hour Club.

She enjoyed sewing and piecing quilts. Frances loved spending time with her family and she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1992, and daughter F. Jeanene Lawhead in 1994.

Frances is survived by her son Charles K. Lawhead Jr. and wife Willetta, daughter Anita L. Woywod and husband Joe, all of De Soto; sister Ella Jane Warren, of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the De Soto Baptist Church, 8655 Church St, De Soto, KS, 66018. Burial will follow at the De Soto Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 also at the church.
