February 17, 2014 – Gardner offers a number of great places to eat. I wanted to do a video profile of some of them… so in the videos above I visit four of my favorite local family owned businesses. Next time you visit one of these restaurants, please tell them you saw their video in The Gardner News!

Austins Bar & Grill has two Johnson County locations. They’ve been in Olathe since 1987 and opened the Gardner location in 2006. Austins is a great sports bar, with more high definition TV’s than any other Gardner restaurant, and it’s also a great place for family dining, business lunches or private parties. This family owned business is active in many local charities including Temporary Lodging for Children, Faiths Hope Fund, and A.L.S. Kansas City. Austins offers steak house quality food in a clean modern sports bar environment and have great daily food and drink specials.  You can see their entire menu on their website at www.austinsbarandgrill.com.

Blazers Restaurant has been a Gardner landmark for 37 years, making it the oldest operating restaurant in Gardner. Wally & Dawn Borth purchased the business in 2011, and have expanded the menu with a variety of new items. Always known for great burgers and sandwiches, Blazers now offers “smoked on site” BBQ, Mexican food, fried chicken and ice cream. Wally & Dawn also have added a drive through window so you can call your order in and pick it up without getting out of your car. Blazers also now offers catering services to provide a full buffet of great food that will impress your guest at your next party or business function.

Roosters Bar & Grill is located in the same shopping center as Price Chopper grocery. They’re open at 7 a.m. every day serving their full breakfast menu, featuring great biscuits and gravy, plus omelets, steak & eggs and much more. For lunch and dinner they have a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and many choices of dinner entrees – from steak dinners to Mexican dishes.  No matter what you order, you’re sure to get filled up, as Roosters is known for their generous serving portions and friendly servers. They have specials every day including steak and prime rib after 4 pm on Fridays. Plenty of menu items for the kids too, so bring the whole family down to Roosters!

Tumbleweed Grill & Bar is another familiar longtime Gardner business. Serving Gardner residents since 1981, the Tumbleweed was opened by Herbie and Sharon Meyer, and later was passed on to their son Chris and his wife Christina, who operate it today. It’s a great place to go any day of the week for lunch or dinner and they serve breakfast on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Popular menu items include the pepper jack cheese cubes , grilled chicken salads and Herbie’s “stacked high” pork tenderloin sandwich which remains a favorite after all these years. The accommodating staff makes Tumbleweed a great place for both food and fun, with karaoke night plus a pool and darts league.
