Former GEHS player competes in bowl game

Former Gardner Edgerton High School football standout Lucas Powell  played for Ohio University in the Beef O’Brady Bowl, Dec. 23. The game was played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
At 6’3”, 295 pounds, Powell was the starting center for an Ohio team that dropped a hard fought 37-20 decision to Eastern Carolina.
Ohio fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter but rallied for 14, second quarter points to pull within 17-14 by halftime. The Bobcats gained a 17-17 third quarter tie only to see East Carolina post 20, fourth quarter points for the win.
Ohio University is an NCAA Division I program in Athens, Ohio. The team plays in the Mid America Conference. Powell, a sophomore, is majoring in sports management.
He is the son of Kit and Debbie Powell of Edgerton.
