Stewart Fairburn, who served as Gardner City Administrator for a decade, will retire from a similar gig in Chickasha, Okla., according to the Chickasha News.
Fairburn arrived in Gardner late in the winter of 2000, just as the community was in the middle of explosive growth. He left Gardner to accept a job as the Chickasha city manager in 2011.
“This will compete four years working for the city, but it is short of what I had originally intended,” Fairburn said in a release to the Chickasha News. “However, events in my personal life have provided me the ability to retire at this time after 35 years of public service. Though I am disappointed leaving the job half done, I hope I have established a good start for the next manager to take to the next level.”
Following Fairburn’s departure, Mike Press, a former Johnson County manager, served as interim city administrator. He assisted in the search to hire a new Gardner city administrator.
Current Gardner City Administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee earned the role, arriving in Gardner in the summer of 2012.
