Florence Edna Richardson, 96, Gardner, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Sept. 18, 2012 at Royal Terrace Nursing Home, Olathe, KS.
Florence was born Nov. 28, 1915 in rural Gardner to Fred and Eva (Smith) Richardson. She attended Prairie Center #22 school through the 8th grade.
In the 40’s Florence started working in homes doing housework in Olathe, then Wellsville, then Ottawa; in 1959 she went back home to Gardner and cared for her parents until their deaths.
In ’68 she went to Ottawa and started working at Cedar House in the kitchen serving meals and cleaning up for 15 years; retiring in 1981.
Florence was a former member of the First Christian Church of Ottawa and the Friends/Quaker Church of Gardner. She enjoyed embroidery work and made beautiful embroidered quilt squares including those made into a state bird quilt and a state flower quilt. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Nellie Dorsey, Maxine Cook, Alpha Saunders, Beulah M. Harrison, Thelma Richardson and Alice Edgington; brothers: Roy Richardson and John Richardson.
Florence is survived by sister, Goldie Kissee and husband Chuck, Hillsdale, Kan.; cousins, nieces and nephews.
