Special to The Gardner News
The City of Edgerton is presenting a Community Picnic and Fireworks Show on Thursday, July 3, at Martin Creek Park. All activities at the celebration are free.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a picnic for the entire community. Hot dogs, hamburgers, a side dish and a drink will be provided. Food will be served until supplies run out.
Also at 6:30, music will be provided by DJ Phil Davis, and Face-painting by Terrie will also be available.
Power Hour will be at 7 p.m., which is one hour of family-fun competitions. Several games such as base-running, baseball throwing, basketball shooting, and punting will take place.
Community games begin at 8 p.m., including kickball, horseshoes and volleyball. Activities will take place throughout the park.
The highlight of the evening will be the fireworks show, beginning at approximately 9:45 p.m.
A special guest this year will fire the first shot of the fireworks show. Susie Pryor, of Corona, Calif., won a raffle drawing conducted by the Edgerton Historical Society during last weekend’s Frontier Days event. Pryor is coming from her California home specifically to take part in this year’s fireworks show and will fire the first shot.
Edgerton Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tegan Meador is organizing the picnic and fireworks show this year and hopes everyone will bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the event. “There will be something for everyone, and we want to encourage people to take part in the games and enjoy the entire park. We want it to be a real party atmosphere,” said Meadors.
Volunteers for the event are needed and any help will be greatly appreciated, Meadors said. If interested, call (913)893-6231.
